Scripture: “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21
We love the clean, comfortable parts of the process. We love talking about love, grace, and new beginnings. But we often gloss over the sheer weight of the transaction that made those things possible.
Jesus did not just overlook our flaws or sweep our mistakes under the rug. He took on the full weight of human brokenness, stepping directly into the mess so we would not have to carry it anymore.
The danger is that we often treat grace like a cheap fix. We live like we are still on the hook, constantly trying to manage our own redemption, punishing ourselves for old failures, and acting like we have to earn a clean slate every single morning.
The exchange was already made. He took the penalty so we could take the righteousness. You do not have to spend your life trying to pay back a debt that was marked paid in full.
