Scripture: “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” — Ephesians 4:1–2
In the first three chapters of Ephesians, Paul lays out massive truths about grace, adoption, and a secure identity. But notice where Chapter 4 shifts: “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy...”
Paul does not say to work hard to earn this standing. He says that now that you have this standing, act like it.
We often think maturity looks like flashy gifts or deep intellectual debates. But true maturity is measured by our patience, our humility, and how we handle friction with the people right in front of us. He calls us to make every effort to keep unity through the bond of peace.
Unity does not happen by accident. It requires actual effort, emotional stamina, and the choice to bear with one another even when people get under your skin. It is much easier to isolate or write people off than it is to practice grace in the messy middle of community.
